Higher Development Award

The Higher Development Award programme is designed to enable clinical and non-clinical support workers to develop core skills, techniques and knowledge required to progress to other roles and practice safely. The programme offers the opportunity to develop confidence, leadership skills, functional and digital skills.

Whether you are looking for progression or professional development, this programme will give you the tools needed to develop your practice and improve the experiences and outcomes of service users and families.

There are three levels of programme: 

The new qualifications are well recognised within the NHS, and offer opportunities to develop knowledge and skills within the adult care sector at levels 1, 2 and 3.

Level 1

This is a great starting point for operational employees, new to their role or looking for personal development. The topics covered include: IT communication fundamentals, recognising employment opportunities and understanding stress and stress management techniques.

Level 1 is delivered over 5 days.

Level 2

If you are in a supervisory position or have aspirations to become a team leader this course will support development of the necessary knowledge and skills. The topics covered include: being a team leader, providing customer service, monitoring team performance, Building work relationships, developing team needs.

Level 2 is delivered over 7 days.

Level 3

This programme is suitable for those currently in a supervisory position who are looking to progress into management or leadership roles. The topics covered include: managing a team to achieve results, stakeholder relationships, effective communication, project delivery, budgets and resources.

Level 3 is delivered over 10 days.
