T Levels

We held a virtual information event for local employers interested in supporting our new T Level in Engineering and Manufacturing with the industry placements. The placement enables employers to work with bright, young students who can bring fresh-thinking to the workforce through the 45-day placement. There is the option of offering them employment at the end of the T Level, with them hitting the ground running in a business that is then familiar to them. Employers were interested in meeting the T Level students in advance of placements and potentially selecting those that seemed most suited to their business, being involved in developing a relevant employer-set project, visits to site and shaping the process so college is meeting the needs of the employers.

See the presentation here:

T Levels are a new two-year qualification for 16 to 19 year olds. Designed with employers, each T Level is equivalent to 3 A levels and will help young people develop the knowledge, attitude and practical skills to thrive in the workplace. At the heart of each course, a 45-day industry placement will give you early access to the brightest talent entering your market.

T Levels – An overview from our Assistant Principal Sue Hannan

Our Assistant Principal for Curriculum Sue Hannan talks about the range of T Levels offered at Furness College from 2021 and how an industry placement can lead students straight into the workplace. One T Level is equivalent to 3 A Levels and this qualification is suited to those who are clear on their career path and want to bring new ideas to employers as part of their qualification.

Business benefits of industry placements

Students on industry placements bring with them enthusiasm, good subject knowledge and skills to support your business and after 45 days they could hit the ground running as your next employee!

It helps:

  • Foster future talent: get to know students and identify talented individuals who you may wish to offer employment to in the future
  • Extra help at no cost: industrial placement students carry out real work while developing their skills and knowledge
  • Skills to match your workplace requirements
  • Flexibility: Placements can be one or two days a week through the year; one or two weeks at a time; a month at a time, or longer
  • Boost your company’s reputation: people completing placements with you talk to their friends and family, and mention their experiences on social media
  • Develop staff management and supervisory skills: supervising or managing placement students can help to develop your employees’ leadership skills, boosting job satisfaction and retention
