Who can be an apprentice?
An apprentice is an employee. We can support you to find an employer.
You can apply to be an apprentice if you are:
- 16 or older
- Not in full-time education
- Living and working in England
Apprenticeship Levels
Level 2
These apprenticeships provide basic knowledge and skills for specific jobs and are equivalent to 5 GCSEs.
English and Maths requirements
Apprentices aged 16-18:
- No GCSE Maths/English at grade 3–1 (or equivalent): must complete Level 1 Maths and English and work towards L2 once completed (if sufficient time remains)
- GCSE Maths/English at grade 3–1, will work towards L2
- GCSE 9-4 will be exempt
If aged 19+, you and your employer can decide whether to complete Maths and English qualifications.
Level 3
These apprenticeships offer more specialised knowledge and skills and are equal to 2 A levels.
English and Maths requirements
Apprentices aged 16-18:
- No GCSE Maths/English at grade 9–4 (or equivalent): must work towards and complete Level 2 Maths and English
- GCSE Maths/English at grade 9–4 or above: no additional Maths/English required
- GCSE 9-4 will be exempt
If aged 19+, you and your employer can decide whether to complete Maths and English qualifications.
