Furness College is launching Skills Bootcamps to support the demand for higher level skills in the construction trades.
The college will deliver the training in the state-of-the-art workshops at its Channelside campus from September 2022.
Skills Bootcamps are part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee, helping everyone gain skills for life.
They are free, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, giving people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and fast-track to an interview with a local employer.
Steve McAloone, the college’s director of curriculum for employer learning and business development, urged employers who want to recruit staff or to upskill their workforce to get in touch.
“We want to partner with local employers on this initiative to help steer the course and support our learners to fill any vacancies.
“For those who are not currently in work, completing a Skills Bootcamp leads to a guaranteed job interview with a local employer, helping you to get a better job.
“For small and medium sized businesses who want to upskill their current workforce, a 90 per cent subsidy is available, with a 70 per cent cost subsidy available to large employers, with the remainder of the cost co-funded by government.
“This can help reduce recruitment times by guaranteeing a pathway for motivated learners to join your workforce.
