What Modules will you Study?

Social Sciences Pathway modules include:

• Law


• Sociology
You will attend four 3 hour sessions per week (two for each
of these subjects) from September until June. There is a further mandatory
subject of study skills that help you with the process of applying to
university and provide you with the necessary academic skills to succeed on
the course. You will attend a one study skill session a week from September to
June.

How long is the course?

As a full-time student on this programme, you will be attending classes at college for approximately 13 hours per week, over a period of 30 weeks. In addition to this you will need time for self-study.

How much will this course cost?

Social Scienes Pathway £3,022

You may be eligible for full funding through Legal Entitlement if you are aged 19-23 and this is your first level 3 qualification.
If you are age 24 or over you may apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.

What are the entry requirements?

The access to Higher Education (HE) Diploma is for learners aged over 19 years.

Entrance to the Access course is based on a satisfactory interview and achieving at least level one literacy in your diagnostic assessment. You should also, preferably, have some evidence of recent study, i.e. within the last five years. Due to changes to most University entry requirements, all Access applicants must have either GCSE Maths or English at grade C/4 or above (Functional skills or Key skills are not in this case considered to be suitable alternatives).

An opportunity to study for either GCSE (or alternative) maths or English, will be available for you. It is not possible to study both English and Maths.

What opportunities will this lead to?

Social Sciences students have the opportunity to study a combination of Law and Sociology. Popular progression routes include study and/or careers in humanities subjects, social work, law local government, criminology and civil service.
