Course Aims
The AAT Accounting Qualifications provide practical, internationally recognised finance and accountancy skills that can open doors for you in any industry across the world. AAT’s short qualifications provide a solid foundation in bookkeeping and accounting software, acting as a good starting point if you’re new to these subjects.
AAT is open to everyone - you don’t need previous qualifications or experience, and you can work at a pace that fits in with your lifestyle. Whether you’re looking for your first job in accountancy, or simply want to enhance your existing accounting skills, AAT will give you the training you need.
AAT offers a range of benefits for student members (including study support, career advice to help find the perfect job and exclusive discounts), as well as a route into chartered accountancy. If you choose to further your studies with one of the leading chartered professional bodies, such as ACCA, CIPFA or CIMA, your AAT qualification will give you generous exemptions.
How long is the course?
The course runs over 34 weeks and will consist of one afternoon and one evening class.
The qualification will require at least an equal amount of home study and students are encouraged to read their text book at home and use the practice questions available in the text to hone their skills learnt in class.

How will I learn?
The course is classroom based, taught with a mixture of sessions and workshops.
Students are encouraged to utilise the electronic learning resources available to them outside of class e.g. the AAT’s website learning resources and also Furness College’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE.)
How will I be assessed?
All units are Computer Based Assessments (CBAs) and will be held at Furness College.
What are the entry requirements?
Students should have already accomplished AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting or have achieved direct entry due to prior relevant qualification and/or experience and should also have an adequate level of English and Mathematics (Level 2 or equivalent is recommended).
The appropriate entry point for newcomers to the AAT programme will be discussed with students at interview to ensure they are directed to the most appropriate entry point.
The AAT also requires all students to disclose any criminal records or financial barriers to membership e.g. County Court Judgements (CCJs), bankruptcy etc. Applicants should seek advice from the AAT to ensure that they can meet these requirements for AAT Student Membership prior to enrolment.

What opportunities will this lead to?
On completion of AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting and with College agreement, students can progress on to AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting.
