Furness College, Channelside campus
How will I learn?
The Level 3 units are designed to give students an opportunity to return to learning. The courses are intended to introduce students to a subject area in a non-threatening, supportive environment. Students will develop an understanding of the subject area and the study skills necessary for entry to Higher Education. You will be encouraged to draw upon your own experiences and knowledge to contribute to class sessions and will be offered guidance in improving study skills. Classes are attended by a variety of students, many of whom may not have studied for some time. Learning methods will include a mixture of discussion, group work, workshops and tutorials.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is by a mixture of exam and coursework.
What are the entry requirements?
The access to Higher Education (HE) Diploma is for learners aged 19+.
Entrance to the Access course is based on a satisfactory interview and achieving at least level one literacy in your diagnostic assessment. You should also, preferably, have some evidence of recent study, i.e. within the last five years. Because of recent changes to most University entry requirements, all Access applicants must have either GCSE Maths or English at grade C/4 or above (Functional skills or Key skills are not in this case considered to be suitable alternatives). An opportunity to study for either GCSE (or alternative) maths or English, will be available for you. It is not possible to study both English and Maths.
