Am I Eligible for an Apprenticeship?

Who can be an apprentice?

An apprentice is an employee. We can support you to find an employer.

You can apply to be an apprentice if you are:

  • 16 or older
  • Not in full-time education
  • Living and working in England

Apprenticeship Levels

Level 2

These apprenticeships provide basic knowledge and skills for specific jobs and are equivalent to GCSEs.

Level 3

These apprenticeships offer more specialised knowledge and skills and are equal to A Levels.

Levels 4 to 6

These apprenticeships focus on higher-level professional skills and can be equal to a foundation degree, a Higher National Certificate (HNC), or a Higher National Diploma (HND).

Level 6

These apprenticeships lead to either a full bachelor’s or master’s degree.

Some apprenticeships require specific qualifications as entry criteria, for example GCSE English and maths. You may be given permitted to study and achieve these qualifications as part of your apprenticeship.

To meet the entry requirements of a higher or degree apprenticeship you may need specific academic qualifications and/or experience.

Please see entry requirements on each apprenticeship course page for more information.
