Pupils and their parents are invited to head to Furness College’s Channelside campus to ‘embrace their future’ at a Careers Fair next week.
More than 50 organisations and employers will be on hand to advise school pupils about their next steps in education or employment.
The event, to be held on Valentine’s Day, will be open for pupils in Year 10 and Year 11 from schools across the area from 4pm to 5.30pm.
The college has teamed up with Inspira to put on the event.
Organiser Sarah Carter, who is Student Services Manager and Careers Leader at Furness College, urged people to come along.
“This event is a one-stop shop for careers advice with many businesses and training providers under one roof,” she said.
“We picked February 14th as a memorable day and employers would love to speak to young people who will be their workforce of the future.”
Sectors attending will include healthcare, childcare and education, nuclear, engineering, construction, tourism, retail, business and hospitality as well as training providers.
Lauren Jackson, Local Employment Engagement Coordinator at Inspira said: “At Inspira we thrive on working with partners including local businesses, charities, organisations and of course educational partners such as Furness College. This will be our second event in this academic year where we have partnered with the college, and we are excited to offer careers advice and guidance to all the young people in the Furness area who will be attending.
“Along with myself we will have Daniel Edwards, the college’s resident career adviser on hand to offer any career related guidance required from students or parents.
“Through the link programme I have great relationships with a wide range of SME businesses and organisations in the area and would like thank everyone who has set time aside to attend the fair.”
Confirmed employers include Cumbria County Council Apprenticeship Team, Cumbria Teaching Agency, BAE Systems Submarines, Furness Engineering and Technology Limited, Oxley Developments, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay and Vattenfall.
There will also be staff from the college’s Channelside and Rating Lane campuses on hand to talk about career pathways, apprenticeships, sixth form and degree courses.
Members of the public who want to find out more about the adult education offered are also welcome at this time.
