Pupils get a taste of life at Furness College

Hundreds of pupils from across South Cumbria will get a chance to experience life as a Furness College student this week.

The college is opening the doors of its £47million Channelside campus from 5pm to 8pm tomorrow (Wednesday 16th November) for its annual Open Evening.

Prospective students and their parents will have a chance to tour the facilities, find out about courses and get advice on their next steps.

Specialist tutors and learners from all curriculum areas including engineering, construction, catering, hair and beauty, business, education, health and social care, computing and sports will be on hand to give expert advice. There will also be information about the full and part-time adult courses, university degrees and apprenticeships on offer.

Principal and Chief Executive of Furness College Professor Andrew Wren urged people to attend to see the campus first-hand.

“We have the biggest range of courses in Cumbria, so we know there is a place for every student at Furness College and a programme to help them achieve their dream career.

“Our Open Evening is aimed particularly at those in Year 10 and Year 11 but also adults who want to enhance their career prospects by returning to education either as adult learners or a university degree student,” he said.

“It is a chance to meet tutors and learners from all our curriculum areas will be on hand to give expert advice on the full-time and part-time courses and apprenticeships on offer, including our new T Level qualifications.”

Tours take place at 5.30pm, 6.30pm and 7pm. Visitors will see the restaurant-standard catering suite, hairdressing and barbering salon, engineering and construction workshops and sports facilities including gym, sports hall and 3G pitch.

The event at Channelside follows a successful Open Evening at Barrow Sixth Form College earlier this month.
