Opportunities Fair offers advice about jobs

Furness College is hosting a careers event to give students and school pupils first-hand advice about jobs after their academic courses. The Opportunities Fair, on Tuesday 15th March, is the first time in three years that the college has been able to open its doors to host up to 50 major employers, training providers and universities.

Sectors attending include healthcare, childcare and education, nuclear, engineering, construction, tourism, retail, business and hospitality as well as training providers.

Employers include BAE Systems, James Fisher and Sons, Orsted, Kimberly-Clark, Spirit Energy, Signal Films and Risedale Homes.

There will also be staff from Furness College’s Channelside and Rating Lane campuses on hand to talk about further education options, apprenticeships, sixth form and degree courses.

Organiser Sarah Carter, who is Student Services Manager and Careers Leader at Furness College, said it was a great opportunity for people to plan ahead and speak to employers about what they were looking for in employees and the type of roles coming up.

“It has been a challenging few years in the job market, both from an employer and prospective employee point of view and we are delighted to bring so many organisations together under one roof as a one-stop shop for careers advice.

“Our Opportunities Fair is what it says, it will open doors for people and everyone is welcome – from school pupils and our own students to members of the public who are considering a career change. We will also have staff from curriculum areas who will be on hand to answer your career-related questions.”

The event is an extension to National Careers Week #ncw2022
