GCSE grades put student a step closer to dream career

Aspiring police officer Andrew Bartlett was delighted to achieve excellent grades in his maths and English GCSEs at Furness College meaning he is a step closer to his dream career.

Andrew achieved a grade 5 in maths and a grade 8 in English and will now progress on to the next level of his public services course at the Channelside campus.

“My parents are going to be really happy and proud of what I’ve achieved,” he said. “And I’m going to celebrate. I’ve worked hard to get these results and so I’m pleased that hard work has paid off.”

The teenager said his goal is to first become a police community support officer and he needed his GCSEs to be able to study his Level 3 in public services.

Andrew didn’t sit his GCSEs at school due to health reasons and joined the course in September last year. He said he chose public services as he knew it would equip him with the skills to progress into his chosen career.

“The best thing about my course is that it’s mostly different every day. A lot of the times we are doing sports and other physical activities which keep it fresh and fun. I have learned a lot about what goes into the career that I want and how I can get better to reach my goals.”

Andrew thanked his teachers. “They really try their best to help you and make you succeed.”
