Furness College to hold Adult Education Open Evening

Furness College is holding an Adult Education Open Evening tomorrow (Wednesday) with information about its full programme of courses.

From HNCs to degrees, short courses to evening classes, online learning and apprenticeships the college has a range of options, some free to study, to help career-minded people get back up and running.

The event will take place at the Channelside campus on Wednesday 24th May from 4pm to 6pm with staff on hand to find a course to suit every learner.

Assistant Principal for Curriculum Sue Hannan urged people who were considering their career options to come along.

“Whether you are employed or looking for work, we have a range of courses that will help you get where you want to be.

“We revamped our adult courses at the beginning of this year to reflect the skills people were needing in the current jobs market.”

Some courses are delivered on-site at the state-of-the-art Channelside campus, while others can be delivered via distance learning to offer maximum flexibility to learners.

“In addition, applications are now open for our higher education programmes,” said Sue. “These include degrees in teaching and engineering and HNCs in health, computing, construction and business which start in September and can be studied here in Barrow, part-time around work and family commitments.”

For information about how to finance studies, there will be sessions on student finance and a talk on apprenticeships as well as information about access to university.

Support worker Millie Treen is studying the Access to University course with a goal of going to university and becoming a midwife.

“I wanted to fit a part-time course around work,” she said. “I would encourage anyone thinking of going back to education to do it. The anticipation is the worst part and it’s not been as daunting as I thought, the tutors really help you back into it.”
