Furness College Principal assures Year 11s their college place is secure ahead of GCSE Results Day

Andrew Wren, Principal and Chief Executive of Furness College, said: “We know it’s a nervous time when students get their GCSE grades – particularly in such unusual circumstances – but our advice is not to panic. Whatever your grades, we are guaranteeing your places for a September start.
“You’ve all been through quite a lot, and have had an anxious wait at home to find out your grades, but please remember that patience and resilience are also skills that you will need both in life and in your future career.
“Please try not to worry in advance, it won’t change things, and remember that there is a place for you at either our Channelside or Sixth Form campus, whatever your results. If you’ve not got the results you wanted, the most important thing is to seek advice as early as possible and find out more about your options. We have an Advice Session running in the afternoon of GCSE Results Day at our Channelside campus.
“We are really looking forward to welcoming many of you to join us in September, but if things don’t go to plan, don’t be put off and think education is not right for you, especially as you’ve been out of the classroom for a while. Many people have gone on to achieve great things after getting modest GCSEs grades and, for some, it has even spurred them on to succeed at the highest level.
“Furness College in a brilliant position to help you because we have the biggest choice of qualifications in Cumbria, with a course for every learner. So whether you enjoy the practical side of learning and want to study a vocational course at our state-of-the-art Channelside campus, or want to continue to develop your academic skills in the classroom studying A Levels at Barrow Sixth Form College, we can support you every step of the way.
“Our staff are experts at listening to your aims and ambitions and can help find courses to put you on track to your ultimate career goal. We’re holding a socially distanced Advice Session tomorrow from 12pm – 5pm at our Channelside campus, or you can call us or contact us via our Facebook page for any last-minute questions you have about your grades or course choices.
“It’s not too late to apply to Furness College.”
