Student’s progress to Art and Design related degrees and similar courses at University and Art College.
In the exploratory stage you will be helped to adopt an open-minded approach and to broaden your research skills. You will practice the essential skills of observing and recording, supported by life drawing classes. You will explore a very wide variety of media and techniques through structured workshops that lead directly to extensive experimentation. This will all be supported by art and design history lectures and gallery visits.
At the pathway stage you will extend and integrate the skills already encountered through a series of negotiated projects. As your work develops progressively towards an area of specialist study, you will investigate this through practical and written work, demonstrating your absorption of the influence of others’ work and your increased understanding of your chosen discipline.
At the confirmatory stage you must take full responsibility for your progress, undertaking an in-depth investigation into an area of interest that fully utilises and integrates your skills and understanding. You will produce this to deadline for display in a public exhibition.
