A Level Design and Technology: Product Design

There has been a huge growth in technology and how this is utilised to affect design. This is a growth industry with wide ranging opportunities due to the demand for technical skills.

Studying A Level Design and Technology: Product Design will allow you to use your imagination and creativity as you design and project manage a project.

You will learn CAD and CAM skills as well as using other relevant technology and software to bring your ideas to life. You will learn core technical, design and manufacturing skills, useful to a future career in disciplines such as engineering and design.

This course starts in September 2025.

Entry Requirements

What are the entry requirements?

To study this A Level course you will need a minimum of three GCSEs at Grade 4 or above and two GCSEs at grade 5 or above.

If you have grade 3 in English or maths you will study this alongside your other subjects. We are unable to offer both GCSE English and maths as part of the same programme. Please contact us for advice if you need to re-sit both English Language and maths.

Our A Level courses may be studied as a programme of three A Level subjects or as blended programme with one or two vocational subjects. Please check individual course pages for entry requirements.

Honours programme students will have a minimum average GSCE score of 6.0. In addition to studying three A Level subjects, Honours students will be enrolled on an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). The Honours Programme prepares students for university, supporting development of key skills such as independent research and report writing.

What opportunities will this lead to?

Students may continue study at university in subjects such as engineering an material sciences. Career opportunities include engineering, product design, graphic design, furniture design, car design, artitechture.

Brandon Yung achieved A*ABB in maths, physics, design and technology and further maths and has secured his dream apprenticeship in nuclear engineering at BAE Systems. He said: “I wanted to get a higher apprenticeship and college really supported me to get there. At Sixth Form, there’s more freedom, flexibility and access to great facilities.”
