Furness College Students’ Union Elections

Furness College is looking for students to become part of its Students’ Union for 2021/22.

An election of officers to various posts below, including President, will take place across both campuses with students in their second year or who are staying on for another year after their current course eligible to stand for election. All students will be able to vote who they want as officers.

How it works

You need to produce a statement (Manifesto) taking the opportunity to tell your students why they should vote for you.

  • What changes do you want to achieve at college and for the student experience.
  • Be realistic, your term in office will last 1 year so it has to be achievable.
  • What makes you the best candidate!
  • This is your time to shine!

You then need to say what you want to do

  • You could help to make the college eco friendly
  • Ensure every students has a voice.
  • Push for more mental health support.
  • Develop more societies and clubs.
  • Hold Social events for students

You will need to actively campaign to get your students to vote for you.  Remember it is college so make sure you are not breaching any rules.

The roles for the SU are:

  • President (Cross Campus) – Student Governor
  • Vice President (VP) Education – Student Governor
  • VP Student Activities, social & fund raising events and Sports
  • VP Welfare
  • VP Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Students
  • VP LGBT+ Students
  • VP Students with Disabilities
  • VP Mature Students
  • VP Environment

The roles in bold are priority positions that need to be filled and then if there are enough candidates for the SU then the rest of the roles will also be filled.

Please email Liz Kershaw in Student Services via email liz.kershaw@furness.ac.uk for more information or to send your manifesto.

Deadline extended to 15th October.

Once elected the Student Union can start to co-ordinate its calendar of events i.e. Social Events, Fund Raising, Student Voice ensuring course reps are-trained and can advocate change within their campuses.  The Union will have two Student Governors who will attend Governor Board Meetings and the Learning Experience Committees they are the President and Vice Principal we would also like a Higher Education Student.

The Corona Virus has had an impact on education; we need the Student Union to get College life back on track – WORK HARD BUT HAVE SOME FUN!
