Sixthformer praised for ideas on dream placement

A Barrow Sixth Form College student has won praise for her ‘great ideas’ when she took part in the prestigious Dream Placement project.

Eboni McClarey, who studies A Levels in psychology, biology and chemistry at the Rating Lane campus, spent a week at the office of the Barrow and Furness MP Simon Fell.

Alongside project work to encourage young people to give their views on how future ‘levelling up’ funding for the area should be spent, she wrote a press release and content for the e-newsletter and social media.

MP for Barrow and Furness Simon Fell said it had been lovely to have Eboni join the team for a week.

“Eboni had great ideas, and the project work that she completed about engaging with young people more about the levelling up funding that is coming to the area, was very insightful. Her ideas were fantastic and I will be looking to implement them this year.

“It was amazing to be a part of the Dream Placement scheme this year, and I look forward to taking part in years to come.”

Eboni said it has been an interesting and very busy week.

“It was really good being in an office environment and learning what they do and seeing the case work and the future plans for Barrow,” she said. “I found the case work element so rewarding because you are helping people with issues that they have and can directly improve their lives.”

Dream Placement is run by The Centre for Leadership Performance and enables 16 to 18-year olds from across Cumbria to apply for placements in the county’s top businesses and organisations.

The candidates go through a competitive selection process and join the organisations for a week in the February half term break to complete unique projects.
