International Supported Internship Day

“Despite the weather, we had a great time hosting our National Supported Internship Day event” commented Kiera Turner, Project Search Coordinator at Furness College.

“DFN Project SEARCH Furness General Hospital interns, along with staff and family members began the walk at Furness College with the aim to ‘walk a mile in a nurse’s shoes’. They decided to host a fundraiser for the event to allow them to give back to those who have supported them at Furness General Hospital. For the interns, the event was the perfect way to demonstrate their abilities, not their disabilities”

“The interns took it in turns to push the wheelchair and hold up the supported internship banner. They made over £200 on our online fundraiser, and cash donations were collected along the way which will were also added to the fundraising total. They made their way through Barrow, and ended with a well-deserved celebration at Furness General Hospital. The event was all about raising awareness of supported internships, and they did just that!”

“I am incredibly proud of the resilience the interns showed throughout this event” said Kiera, “nobody let the weather dampen their spirits, and they all finished the event with a smile. Well done everyone!”
