Future sixthformers will showcase their creative talents at a taster evening at Barrow Sixth Form College.
All Year 11 students are invited to the Spring into Sixth Form event at Furness College’s Rating Lane campus on Wednesday 13th March.
The students will be tasked with a creative challenge and put into teams to compete for prizes at the after-school event from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.
Helen Gibson, Deputy Head of Sixth Form, said it was always fantastic to welcome students to the college and introduce them to other Year 11s.
“We get really good feedback about our Spring into Sixth Form event because it gives our future students the chance to meet each other and settle in before they start in September.
“For those who haven’t quite made up their mind, it’s also a chance to see what a fantastic specialist learning environment sixth form has to offer.”
Those attending will also get to meet staff, including the personal progress coaches and ask any questions they have about sixth form study and college life.
Everyone in Year 11 is welcome and invitations have been sent to pupils from St Bernard’s, Walney, Dowdales, Chetwynde, Furness Academy, Millom School, Cartmel Priory CofE School and John Ruskin School.
Student Liaison Officer Callum Slater, who was the co-founder of the Furness College Students’ Union, will also be on hand to answer questions. He studied A levels at sixth form and attended the Spring into Sixth Form event a couple of years ago.
“Coming from a small school like John Ruskin, I really liked the fact I could meet other students who had applied and get to know faces and names of the tutors in advance. This meant when I started I already felt at home from day one and ready to get started on the next chapter in my education,” he said.
