Furness Raiders celebrate AoC cup glory

Furness Raiders rugby team triumphed emphatically over Wigan Warriors Foundation College in the AoC National Cup final at Featherstone yesterday afternoon.

Both sides are category three academies with Wigan being linked with the town’s Super League side while Furness Raiders are joined with Championship club Barrow Raiders, in association with Furness College.

Furness Raiders were beaten after reaching the final in the 2018 National College Cup after losing to Wakefield College at Craven Park, Barrow. However, the Raiders after a strong season and wins over Cowley, Huddersfield New College and Wyke once again reached the AoC cup final, beating Wigan 50-4.

Elliott Stockdale, who studies at the Rating Lane campus, was a crucial player in yesterday’s game. He said: “It was a brilliant way to end a phenomenal season with the boys and I’d like to thank Dave Cairns and all of the coaching staff for the help and support offered this season.”
