Furness College achieves Teaching Excellence Framework Silver award

Furness College has been awarded the Silver rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework exercise carried out by the Office for Students

Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) ratings are awarded by a panel of student representatives and independent academic experts, designed to identify excellent undergraduate teaching and student outcomes. The ratings provide prospective students and parents an independent assessment of the quality of education delivered by universities.

The panel considered the learning environment and academic support at Furness College to be “very high quality, students appear to have access to a range of support mechanisms that are readily available.” In relation to student outcomes, “the ’outstanding’ progression indicators were considered by the panel in detail and are a testament to the provider working closely with businesses in the area and tailoring and targeting its HE offer to suit the needs of its area’s context. The high levels of progression in an area of such deprivation indicate the provider understands not only the needs of the local area, but the needs of its residents and students to assist them in securing good employment. The provider should be particularly proud of this achievement.”

Furness College student representative Emma Lafferty, said: “Furness College sets a high standard for higher education providers. Speaking from experience of multiple higher education providers, I must say my experience of Furness College has been set way above the rest. They are organised, confident and reliable and never too busy to help. This kind of attitude is what enables students to attain higher marks because they feel comfortable and supported to do so. Furness College have also made absolutely certain that my course relates to my career development and have also been able to navigate with me the outcomes of the course and where it could lead professionally.”
