Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy Studies

The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy Studies is a substantial vocational qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed beauty therapist.
This qualification is based on the beauty therapy National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK's leading professional bodies (The British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) and the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT)) as being fit for purpose for preparing learners for a career as a junior beauty therapist.

Course Content

What Modules will you Study?

Units studied include:

• Follow health and safety practice in the salon
• Salon reception duties
• Display stock to promote sales in a salon
• Client care and communication in beauty-related industries
• Provide facial skincare
• Remove hair using waxing techniques
• Provide eyelash and brow treatments
• Provide manicure treatments
• Provide pedicure treatments
• Apply make-up
• Apply skin tanning techniques
• Plus optional extra units

Full-time over 1 year.

Entry Requirements

What are the entry requirements?

Behaviours and attitudes:
• Show enthusiasm for the subject area
• Show evidence of good skills in practical subjects
• Enjoy working with other people and possess good interpersonal skills
• Demonstrate a commitment to study
• Be able to work independently
• Be willing to practise treatments on other students & clients

If GCSE English and / or Maths are not at a grade 4, all learners will be required to follow these courses, alongside their beauty course; this is not optional.

Preference is given to students with at least 4 GCSEs at grade 3 and who demonstrate the behaviours and attitudes required in the industry.

For Health & Safety reasons learners are only allowed to wear one pair of stud earrings; all other piercings must be removed when working in the Salon.

Progression

What opportunities will this lead to?

Career opportunities as a junior beauty therapist exist in a variety of contexts, including:
  • Commercial beauty salons
  • Independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings
  • Beauty retail concessions

Whilst this qualification's primary purpose is to prepare learners for employment as a junior beauty therapist, learners may choose to develop their skills further by undertaking qualifications in beauty therapy at Level 3, including:

Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy Treatments.
Progression is based on aptitude and a successful interview.
