If you are looking to develop a rewarding career working with babies and young children, this part-time course will give you the knowledge, practical skills and experience needed to become an Early Years Educator.

Designed for adults aged 19+, the course prepares you to work with children from birth to five years, while also developing your knowledge and understanding of children aged five to seven.

A relevant Level 2 qualification or transferable skills that prepare you for study at Level 3 will be beneficial.

Practical experience is an important part of the qualification. Alongside your college studies, you will undertake a placement in an appropriate early years setting, giving you opportunities to put your learning into practice and develop the skills and confidence required to work effectively with babies and young children.

On successful completion, this qualification is designed to enable you to enter the workforce as an Early Years Educator and, subject to relevant requirements, be included in staff-to-child ratios.

Assessment is through a portfolio of evidence, allowing you to demonstrate both the knowledge and practical skills you develop

Course Content

What Modules will you Study?

Throughout the course, you will build the knowledge and practical skills needed to support the learning, development, care and wellbeing of babies and young children.
Your studies will explore key areas of early years practice, including:
• Child development from birth to seven years
• Supporting children's learning and development
• Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
• Health, safety and wellbeing in early years settings
• Providing high-quality care and education
• Planning and delivering activities and learning experiences
• Supporting children's individual needs and inclusive practice
• Building positive relationships with children
• Working effectively with parents, carers and other professionals
• Professional practice and the role and responsibilities of an Early Years Educator
Practical experience forms an essential part of the qualification. Your placement will enable you to apply what you learn in college, develop your professional practice and demonstrate the practical competencies required to achieve the qualification.

Entry Requirements

What are the entry requirements?

You must be aged 19 or over to study this course.
There are no specific previous qualifications required, although you may find it beneficial to have completed a relevant Level 2 qualification or have transferable skills that will prepare you for study at Level 3.
As practical experience is an essential part of the qualification, you will also need to:
• Have access to a suitable nursery or early years placement for a minimum of two days per week for the duration of the course.
• Be willing and able to complete the practical elements of the qualification within an early years setting.
• Have a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check in place before undertaking your placement.
Your placement must provide suitable opportunities for you to work with babies and young children and demonstrate the practical skills and competencies required to achieve the qualification.
