Level 3 Diploma in Women's Hairdressing

The Level 3 Diploma in Women's Hairdressing qualification aims to provide you with the knowledge, skills and understanding to be a hairdresser/stylist. This qualification is based on the Level 3 Hairdressing National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK’s leading professional hair associations as being fit for purpose to prepare you for a career as a hairdresser/stylist. If you want to further advance your existing hairdressing skills then this is the right course is for you.

Course Content

What Modules will you Study?

The units you will study for this qualification, whilst at College will include the following:

Mandatory units:

• Health and safety
• Client consultatio
• Advanced cutting
• Styling and colouring techniques
• Selling products and services to clients.

The following optional units are available, subject to availability:

• Hair colour correction
• Specialist scalp services
• Bridal hairstyling
• Marketing for the hair and beauty sector
• Hair extension services
• Relaxing African type hair

The full list of optional units is presented in the learner Record of Assessment book (RoA) (specification). This qualification's structure provides learners with the flexibility to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills depending upon their designated career pathway as a senior hairdresser/stylist.

Every full-time course will include a real experience of work. Maths and English form part of this course and will be assessed at the relevant levels.

How long is the course?

Full-time over one year. The course usually consists of one evening per week of an open salon, for all Level 3 services on the programme.

Entry Requirements

What are the entry requirements?

To be accepted to study this qualification you should have successfully achieved one of the following; a Level 2 qualification in hairdressing or an intermediate apprenticeship in hairdressing. You will also be required to attend an informal interview prior to acceptance on this course.

You don't need to be employed, however a work placement or planned work experience within the industry will be a valuable addition to your progression. At level 3, most employers look for work experience as an essential requirement for employment.

What opportunities will this lead to?

The main purpose of this qualification is to enable you to gain employment as a hairdresser/stylist in a commercial salon, or in one of the following career opportunities: - Employed/Independent/self-employed/mobile/homebased settings - Commercial salons - Product manufacturing and training - Television, film, theatre and media - Armed services - HM prison service - Cruise liners - Hospitals/care homes Alternatively you may choose to develop your knowledge and skills to an advanced level by undertaking a Level 4 qualification: - VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Salon Management (QCF) - VTCT Level 4 Diploma in Salon Management (QCF) - VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Specialist Hair and Scalp Services (QCF) - VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Hair Colour Correction (QCF) - VTCT Level 4 Award in Advanced Hair Styling (QCF)
