Level 3 Certificate in Understanding the Principles of Dementia Care (Online only)

This course is designed for people who are wanting to start working in, or already working in health and social care and who would like an understanding of dementia care.

This course aims to develop learners’ knowledge and understanding of:

• Types of dementia and the importance of early diagnosis
• Person-centred approaches in dementia care
• The role of communication, interaction and inclusion in dementia care and support
• The use of medication to support individuals with dementia.

This course is distance learning where you can study at your own pace, with the option of drop-in support sessions at Channelside. There is a range of courses in the suite but enrolment is only possible to one course at a time.

What Modules will you Study?

There are seven mandatory units:

• Understanding Dementia
• Understand How Person-Centred Approaches are Used to Underpin the Care and Support of Individuals with Dementia
• Principles of Communication and Interaction in Dementia Care and Support
• Supporting Positive Interaction, Occupation and Activity in Dementia Care
• Principles of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Dementia Care and Support
• Understand How to Support Individuals with Dementia to Exercise Choice and Rights
• Principles of the Administration of Medication and Well-Being of Individuals with Dementia

This course typically takes 12 weeks to complete.

Entry Requirements

What are the entry requirements?

The course is suitable for anyone who has an interest, or already works in a health care setting and wants to improve and develop their knowledge and understanding. There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this course.

However, you may find it helpful if you have already achieved a Level 2 qualification in a health or social care related area.

What opportunities will this lead to?

The objectives of this qualification are to help learners to: Progress to similar qualifications at a higher-level Access to HE diploma.
