Level 3 Certificate in Understanding the Care and Management of Diabetes

This course is designed for people who are wanting to start working in, or already working in health and social care and who would like an understanding of the care and management of diabetes.

This course aims to develop learners’ knowledge and understanding of:

• The types, causes, signs and symptoms of diabetes
• Anatomy and physiology
• The impact of diabetes on individuals, others and society
• The treatment and management of diabetes
• Common complications of diabetes.

This course is distance learning where you can study at your own pace, with the option of drop-in support sessions at Channelside. There is a range of courses in the suite but enrolment is only possible to one course at a time.

There are four mandatory units:

• Understand Diabetes
• Diabetes in Context
• Understand the Treatment and Management of Diabetes
• Understand the Complications of Diabetes

This course typically takes 12 weeks to complete.

Entry Requirements

What are the entry requirements?

The course is suitable for anyone who has an interest, or already works in a health care setting and wants to improve and develop their knowledge and understanding. There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this course.

However, you may find it helpful if you have already achieved a Level 2 qualification in a health or social care related area.

What opportunities will this lead to?

The objectives of this qualification are to help learners to: Progress to similar qualifications at a higher-level Access to HE diploma.
