Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of End of Life Care

This course is designed for people who are wanting to start working in, or already working in health and social care and who would like an understanding of the principles of end of life care.

This course aims to develop learners’ knowledge and understanding of:

• The definition of end of life care
• Approaches to end of life care
• How to support a person’s familial, spiritual, social and emotional needs
• How to confront issues of death and bereavement

This course is distance learning where you can study at your own pace, with the option of drop-in support sessions at Channelside. There is a range of courses in the suite but enrolment is only possible to one course at a time.

Course Content

What Modules will you Study?

There are five mandatory units:

• Understanding end of life care
• Communication during end of life care
• Assessment and care planning in end of life care
• Person-centred approaches to end of life care
• Care during the final hours of life and bereavement care

How long is the course?

This course typically takes 12 weeks to complete.

Entry Requirements

What are the entry requirements?

The course is suitable for anyone who has an interest, or already works in a health care setting and wants to improve and develop their knowledge and understanding. There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this course.

However, you may find it helpful if you have already achieved a Level 2 qualification in a health or social care related area.

What opportunities will this lead to?

The objectives of this qualification are to help learners to: Progress to similar qualifications at a higher-level and Access to HE diploma.
