Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Working with People with Mental Health Needs

This course is designed for people who are wanting to start working in, or already working in health and social care and who would like an understanding of working with people with people with mental health needs.

This course aims to develop learners’ knowledge understanding and awareness of:
• The role of the mental health worker
• The process and approaches involved in the care and support of those who experience mental ill health.

This course is distance learning where you can study at your own pace, with the option of drop-in support sessions at Channelside. There is a range of courses in the suite but enrolment is only possible to one course at a time.

Course Content

What Modules will you Study?

There are five mandatory units:

• Understand the role of the mental health worker
• Mental health and mental health issues
• Understand duty of care in adult health and social care
• Approaches to care and management in mental health
• Understanding change and support in relation to mental health

How long is the course?

This course typically takes 12 weeks to complete.

Entry Requirements

What are the entry requirements?

The course is suitable for anyone who has an interest, or already works in a health care setting and wants to improve and develop their knowledge and understanding. There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this course.

However, you may find it helpful if you have already achieved a Level 1 qualification in a health or social care related area.

What opportunities will this lead to?

The objectives of this qualification are to help learners to: Progress to similar qualifications at a higher-level and Access to HE diploma.
