Level 2 Onsite Trades Foundation Apprenticeship

Kick start your career in the construction industry!

If you’re aged 16–21 (or 22–24 with an EHCP) and ready to begin working in construction, the Onsite Trade Foundation Apprenticeship is a great way to get started.
This 8-month programme allows you to earn while you learn, gaining hands-on practical skills, industry knowledge, and the workplace behaviours employers value.


As an apprentice, you’ll be employed while completing your training and will receive English and maths support to help you develop the communication, numeracy and problem-solving skills needed on site and in the workplace. Throughout the programme, you’ll build the knowledge and experience needed to progress and grow within the construction industry.

Course Content

What Modules will you Study?


During the Onsite Trade Foundation Apprenticeship, you’ll develop the
practical skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to work safely and effectively
in the construction industry.


Assessments will be carried out throughout the programme, both practical and
knowledge based. There is no end point assessment.


You will learn how to:



  • Prepare and maintain work areas so tasks can be completed safely and
    efficiently

  • Follow health and safety practices on construction sites Use, maintain and
    store tools and equipment correctly

  • Carry out simple repairs and practical construction tasks

  • Understand industry standards and regulations

  • Use the correct personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Protect and handle materials safely on site

  • Apply common construction techniques and understand basic building element
    requirements

  • Develop your maths and English skills to support communication, measuring,
    and problem-solving at work

Entry Requirements

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements in terms of previous qualifications or academic grades.



You will need to be able to understand written and verbal information, communicate effectively, and follow instructions in a workplace environment.



To start this apprenticeship, you must have an employer who will employ you as an apprentice. If you’re interested in the programme but don’t currently have an employer, we can help. Progression

What opportunities will this lead to?

The Onsite Trade Foundation Apprenticeship is designed to help you build a long-term career in the construction industry. After completing the programme, you may choose to progress into further study or training to develop your skills in a specific trade, such as carpentry and joinery, plastering, or brickwork.
