Future Ready Furness

Future Ready Furness is a supportive, full-time programme designed to help young people develop the confidence, independence and practical skills they need to prepare for adulthood.

Based at our Barrow Sixth Form campus, the programme provides opportunities to learn through practical activities, take part in community projects and develop essential skills for everyday life.

Learners will be supported to become more independent, build confidence and develop skills they can use at home, in the community and as they plan for their future.

Learners can enrol between September and April, providing flexibility to join the programme during the academic year.

Course Content

What Modules will you Study?

Future Ready Furness focuses on developing practical skills for adult life in a supportive learning environment.

Activities will provide opportunities to develop skills in areas such as:
• Independent living
• Housekeeping and looking after your home
• Preparing for adult life
• Communication and social skills
• Personal organisation
• Building confidence and independence
• Taking part in community projects
• Working with others
• Making choices and taking responsibility
• Developing skills for future progression

English and maths will also form part of the programme, with opportunities to develop these skills in ways that are relevant to everyday life.

Learning will take place both at college and, where appropriate, within the wider community, giving learners opportunities to put their skills into practice.

Entry Requirements

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal academic entry requirements for Future Ready Furness. Learners must have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and be interested in developing their independence and skills for adult life.

We are looking for learners who:
• Are willing to take part in learning and practical activities
• Are ready to develop their confidence and independence
• Are committed to attending college regularly
• Are willing to take part in activities within college and the wider community

We will work with you, your family and other professionals involved in your support to make sure Future Ready Furness is the right programme for you.

What opportunities will this lead to?

Future Ready Furness is about helping each learner prepare for their own next steps. Throughout the year, learners will be encouraged to become more confident and independent while developing skills that can support them in adult life. The programme can help learners prepare for further learning, greater independence, community participation and other appropriate progression opportunities.
