Functional Skills qualifications give you the knowlwedge and skills to use in real life situations. You will gain confidence and capability, whether it’s for work, helping your child or for your own personal development.
Functional Skills English qualifications are offered at Entry Level 1, 2, 3 or at Level 1 and 2.
Courses start throughout the year, typically starting in September, January and March.

Course Content
What Modules will you Study?
You will study the following:
Reading will cover all types of text from journals, course texts, newspapers articles and subject specific resources. There will be comprehension and questions on text you have read
Writing will cover all types of text using correct grammar and punctuation. You will write formal and informal texts which will include letters of application, CVs, reports and assignments.
The Speaking component involves a presentation (for Level 2). This will be formally assessed and will look at delivery, pace, eye contact and content.
The Listening component involves a group discussion. This will be formally assessed and will be on a topic selected from several options that are current or relevant.
How long is the course?
This could vary according to the student’s needs and will be discussed at interview.
