Criminology is being launched at Barrow Sixth Form

College launches Criminology programme for 2022

An exciting new course that can lead to careers in the police, forensic science, criminal justice system or social work has been launched at Barrow Sixth Form College by popular demand.

The one-year Criminology qualification can be studied alongside A Levels for students who want a head start in the subject at degree level or employment in related sectors.

College leaders have introduced the course as it is one of the most popular degrees student go on to study and there has been a flurry of requests for it from current Year 11s.

Head of Sixth Form Helen Gibson said: “We monitor the choices of our students and have noticed a growing demand for criminology so we’ve decided to introduce it for our starters from September this year.

“It complements current A Level subjects including psychology, law, maths, politics and sciences and carries UCAS points for those wishing to go to university.

“Our tutors are excited to refresh our offer with students exploring topics such as people’s fear and fascination with crime, what influences people to commit crime and the judgement of behaviour.

“Students will learn to support, challenge and evaluate opinions of politicians and public lawmakers using fact and reliable evidence.”

Year 11s can find out more information about criminology at the upcoming Spring into Sixth Form taster event on March 23rd from 4.30pm or by emailing info@furness.ac.uk.
