Furness College will hold a virtual information event on Monday (January 17th) to help young adults with an educational health care plan to secure jobs.
The college has developed a new supported internship programme in partnership with University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust (UHMBT), Cumbria County Council, Inspira and the charity DFN Project SEARCH.
Starting in September, it will provide learners aged 18-24 with the opportunity to develop workplace skills at Furness General Hospital with the aim being to secure employment at the end of the programme. There will be 10-12 placements available in key worker roles including administration, portering, catering, domestic services and ancillaries on the wards.
The college’s Assistant Principal for Curriculum Sue Hannan encouraged prospective interns and their parents/carers to join the online meeting to find out more about the scheme.
“This college-to-work transition programme for students with disabilities is a first for Cumbria following the fantastic success of the DFN Project Search nationwide scheme,” she said.
“We want to ensure people with special educational needs across Furness have the support to secure paid employment and fulfilling careers. Many have overcome significant challenges throughout their education experience and have so much to offer in the world of work.”
The interest event runs from 2pm on Zoom and registration is on the website https://www.furness.ac.uk/supported-internships/ or for more information contact internships@furness.ac.uk
