Barrow Sixth Form student selected to represent Cumbria

Congratulations to talented sixthformer Liam Edgley who has been selected to represent Cumbria in the World Scout Jamboree in the United States later this year.

Liam, who studies A levels at the Rating Lane campus, was chosen from more than 100 hopefuls county-wide and will take part in activities including kayaking, skateboarding and mountain climbing.

He will also travel across America and Canada.

The Students’ Union member is currently fundraising for the trip with £90,000 raised from a target of £120,000.

He will be an ambassador for his county and also 1st and 7th Barrow Scouts in Barrow.

Liam said he was really looking forward to meeting up with other Scouts from other cultures around the world and that it would be ‘an experience of a lifetime’.

Deputy Head of Sixth Form Helen Gibson said: “Liam has done extremely well to be selected and we can think of no better student to represent the county on this trip. Alongside his Scout group, we as his college are very proud of his achievements, his dedication to fundraising and we are sure he will have an amazing experience in America.”
