Art students showcase their creativity

Art students will showcase their final major projects at a public exhibition at Barrow Sixth Form next month.

The 13 talented students, who are all on the foundation course at the Rating Lane campus, will hold the exhibition there on May 23rd.

Projects range from textiles animation and graphics, to fine art, illustration, interior design, fashion and architecture.

The students are Lauren Baines, Nadya Cheetham, Caitlin Daw, Sam Dudley, Charisse Gozun, Charlotte Hutton, Brianna Morrish, Tom Mortlock-Jackson, Lauren Niven, Jussy Saltiga, Lois Taylor, Jake Whillance and Megan Yip.

Nikki Conigliaro, who leads art and design at the college, said all of the students have secured university places for next year to study courses in the creative arts sector.

“Creative industries in the UK are recognised as world leading and bring £101billion a year into to the economy according to this year’s government statistics,” she said. “Students progress from here with the skills and confidence they need to make a lasting impact and secure dynamic and innovative jobs in this fast-paced sector.”

The BTEC Foundation Diploma in Art and Design is a one-year post A level course to prepare students for entry to degree-level art and design programmes. It runs at the college’s Centre for Excellence for Art and Design at Rating Lane and aims to develop conceptual and practical skills so students can make the most of a university course.

The exhibition is open to all and runs from 4pm to 6pm at Barrow Sixth Form.
