A Level/CTEC Results Day information and five tips from a former student

Barrow Sixth Form College will be open from 8.30am-12noon on Thursday 18th August for students to collect their A Level/CTEC Results.

We encourage students to come in to celebrate their successes with tutors and seek advice about their next steps.

Staff will be on hand for those who don’t quite get the grades they want or deserve and we will help you put a plan in place.

There is always another option for you!

Below, former Barrow Sixth Form Honours student Izzy Rodger, who is now studying a physics degree at Durham University, shares his tips for results day. Izzy had prepared not to get his grades and recalls an anxious wait but it all turned out well in the end. Here are his thoughts:

  1. Take care of yourself; Please make sure you get a good night’s sleep before results day, it takes a lot of energy and you don’t want to be groggy for it. Also make sure you have a shower and eat a nice breakfast (not at the same time), pancakes aren’t too difficult to make so if you feel like spoiling yourself go for them – if you want them extra fluffy, use buttermilk instead of regular milk.
  2. Wear something comfortable; Maybe don’t rock up in your pyjamas, but make sure you wear something you like wearing. Dress for the weather too, if it’s raining bring a jacket – you’re smart though, I’m sure you know that.
  3. Talk to college staff; They’ve been here before, they’ve seen every outcome before. Chances are they’ll be able to give you some great advice.
  4. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself; Results day seems like a huge thing, but no matter what grades you get life will go on. If you get the grades you needed that’s awesome, but if you missed them don’t beat yourself up – life is long, you’ll find another way forward.
  5. Celebrate; Plan something that you’re going to do after you get your results no matter what, something like going for a nice meal or seeing a film. Invite your friends or family or both along, or do it by yourself if you want – just have something to look forward to on that day that isn’t getting your results back.
