Course Content

How long is the course?

The course is of 300 hours duration & forms part of the engineering foundation programme (see additional info sheet).

How will I learn?

A combination of workshop style, hands on and taught classroom sessions using industry standard equipment & lab facilities.

What subjects will I study?

The course consists of six units studied over 1 year including: • Engineering Environmental Awareness • Engineering Techniques • Engineering Principles • Plus 3 optional units

How will I be assessed?

You will be required to complete : • Training tasks • Practical competence tests • Portfolio of work • Knowledge tests These tasks will be internally set and marked with external moderation or external examinations.

Are there any additional costs?

You will need overalls, boots, stationery and drawing equipment.

Entry Requirements

What are the entry requirements?

The above programme is ideally suited to students who wish to develop both practical skills and technical knowledge and have an enthusiasm for engineering. Students should obtain a good standard of education with preferably 2 passes at GCSE including maths & a science subject. On successful completion of this course qualification you will gain will be Intermediate Certificate in Engineering Technology. This is a level 2 qualification & can be used as the technical element of the foundation modern apprenticeship framework.
