Higher Education at Furness College
Furness College is the largest provider of Higher Education in South Cumbria with more than 30 years’ experience of delivering university-level programmes.
The college offers a wide choice of university-accredited HE qualifications and degrees and has more than 500 students on its HE courses at the Channelside campus.
Courses range from engineering and computing, business to health and social care and teaching. These are offered both on a full-time or part-time basis to ensure flexibility for those who are studying and working. There is also an access to university course to help people who want to study a degree to get the skills they need.
In the government’s Teaching Excellence Framework report, Furness College achieved a silver award – the highest in Cumbria. It scored an ‘excellent’ rating for ensuring students go into highly skilled employment after their studies and for the academic support it offers.
With £47m investment in recent years, the college offers a high-quality learning environment to help students progress with the qualifications and skills to succeed in further study or the workplace and meet their career goals.
The college maintains excellent links with industry and is home to the county’s first £4m Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Centre to meet the growing demand for highly-skilled workers. It has been recognised as a leading national performer in education by becoming one of the first in the country to achieve chartered status after demonstrating quality across the board.
