Furness College take on top-of-the-table Cardinal Newman
Furness College hosted top-of-the-table Cardinal Newman on a windy Wednesday afternoon. The first half began and it was safe to say it was an even game and a goal could go either way.
Furness took the lead with a great strike from Lewis Jones that flew into the top corner. The game continued as it started, very end-to-end.
Cardinal Newman got their reward for crisp football levelling the game. Jones then got his second of the game with another high-quality finish. Cardinal then got awarded a dubious penalty which resulted in a red card for the Furness player, 2-2.
Cardinal then took the initiative and grabbed two goals before half time, one being a screamer from twenty five yards. Justen Pearce then scored with a smart finish. Half time: 4-3.
With the sending off, Furness had no choice to change tactics and shape, which resulted in Sam Hayes, Will Speers-Heywood, Joe Blackshaw and Ryan Fagan coming on.
The game was still very even but with Furness being a player down, the team were finding it hard to keep possession. Cardinal then scored two quick goals to make it 6-3. Lewis Jones then scored his third goal of the game to make it 6-4.
With five minutes left, Cardinal then put the game out of reach for Furness with their lively number 9 grabbing his third goal of the game.
