Furness College recruitment event success
Furness College opened its doors for a Step into Teaching event for people to find out more about opportunities to train the future workforce.
Nearly 50 visitors attended the event on Saturday at the Channelside campus to hear about the range of roles in teaching and assessing and about flexible opportunities to teach while still working in industry.
The college is expanding and is recruiting staff in areas including fabrication and welding, health and social care, hair and beauty, team leading, project management, business, IT and painting and decorating.
Steve McAloone, director of curriculum, technical and adult learning, said it had been a hugely successful morning.
“We are delighted to have had so much interest in current and future roles at Furness College, there was a great atmosphere at the event and the calibre of potential candidates was very high. In addition, we also had interest from people who couldn’t make the event but expressed interest in the roles and who will be coming in over the next few weeks.
“It’s really encouraging that we have people with the skills and qualifications here in our community to help train the future workforce.”
He said visitors ranged from newly-qualified teachers to experienced college tutors who had recently relocated to the area and professionals who had many years’ experience working in industry but want to give something back to the next generation. Staff also offered advice to those who have level 3 qualifications and are looking for a career change.
