How long is the course?
Full-time over one year.
How will I learn?
The course has been designed to meet various learning styles and it includes both the theory and the practical aspects. Various learning resources will be used to underpin the knowledge.
What subjects will I study?
Units studied include:
• The art of dressing hair
• The art of photographic make-up
• Apply make-up
• Provide effective client care
• Follow Health & Safety practice in the salon
• Create an image based on a theme
• Client consultation for hair services
• Colouring hair using Temporary and Semi colours
• Body art design
• Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
Every full-time course will include a real experience of work. Maths and English form part of this course and will be assessed at the relevant levels.
How will I be assessed?
You will be observed throughout the course by your tutor whilst practicing the skills learnt in class. All students will have to sit an end of unit exam for each unit to successfully complete the course.
Are there any additional costs?
There is a dress code of black tunic with red piping trim , black cardigan and black trousers for £70. (The uniform is to be purchased through college). Black flat closed toe shoes must be purchased independently.
What are the entry requirements?
Level 1 in Hair or Beauty Therapy with three GCSEs at grade C or above or previous beauty therapy or make-up qualifications.

What opportunities will this lead to?
This course provides a basic grounding for a career as a makeup artist or students who wish to work in television and theatrical productions. A natural progression route would be to progress on to the Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing or Barbering. Progression is based on aptitude and a successful interview.
