How long is the course?
Full-time over one year.
How will I learn?
The course has been designed to meet various learning styles and it includes both the theory and the practical aspects. Various learning resources will be used to underpin the knowledge.
What subjects will I study?
Units studied include:
- The art of dressing hair
- The art of photographic make-up
- Apply make-up
- Provide effective client care
- Follow Health & Safety practice in the salon
- Create an image based on a theme
- Client consultation
- Colouring hair using temporary colours
- Body art design
- Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
Every full-time course will include a real experience of work. Maths and English form part of this course and will be assessed at the relevant levels.
How will I be assessed?
You will be observed throughout the course by your tutor whilst practicing the skills learnt in class. All students will have to sit an end of unit exam for each unit to successfully complete the course.
Are there any additional costs?
Students must wear a uniform of a tunic and trousers, which costs £45, including delivery. A cardigan is optional at an additional cost. Students must purchase their uniform themselves and if they qualify for financial help, they may receive some money from the college to go towards the cost. Students will receive an order form in the post with their offer letter.
What opportunities will this lead to?
Student can progress on to Level 3 Diploma in Fashion, Theatre and Media Hair and Make-up Studies, Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing, Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy General or take on an apprenticeship.
