How long is the course?
Part time 3.5 hours a week over 1 year
How will I learn?
You will learn by working in a realistic working environment at your own pace.
What subjects will I study?
You will study a range of subjects including:
• Structure of the nail
• Disorders and diseases of the nail
• Health and safety
• Client care
• Manicure treatments including remedial treatments and nail art
• Artificial nail techniques, application, repair, maintenance and removal of artificial nail structures.
• Covering fibreglass, gel and acrylic application using up to date techniques and products.
How will I be assessed?
All the practical work is assessed in salon on clients and practical and oral questions prove knowledge. There are assignments and written tests in each area. A portfolio of evidence is built up throughout the course.
Are there any additional costs?
There is a dress code of purple tunic and brown trousers and brown flat shoes which you can buy through college.
All equipment is provided on the course but nail product kits are available to purchase from the college for use at home.
What are the entry requirements?
Before practical work begins you will study the underpinning knowledge required and your tutors will demonstrate the skills necessary.

What opportunities will this lead to?
You will receive a professional qualification which will enable you to carry out a nail treatment in a salon, health spa etc. Further study may be beauty specialist or beauty therapy, or complementary therapies such as Aromatherapy, Nail Art, Indian Head Massage or Reflexology.
