How long is the course?
Full-time over one year.
How will I learn?
You will learn by working in a realistic salon environment at your own pace. Before practical work begins you will study the underpinning knowledge required through assignment work and your tutors will demonstrate the skills necessary.
How will I be assessed?
All the practical work is assessed in salon on clients and practical and oral questions prove knowledge. There are assignments and written tests. A portfolio of evidence is built up throughout the course.
Are there any additional costs?
Recommended apps for digital media and hand held devices, approximately £3. There are free E Books available to assist you with your study at College.

This is a professional qualification and as such there is a very strict salon dress code to follow. Students must wear a uniform of a tunic and trousers, which costs around £45, including delivery. A cardigan is optional at an additional cost. Students must purchase their uniform themselves and if they qualify for financial help, they may receive some money from the college to go towards the cost. Students will receive an order form in the post with their offer letter. Examples of appropriate footwear can be shown to you at interview.
There will also be a hairdressing kit to purchase that will be compulsory to bring to all lessons (costs in the region of £115). This kit contains specific equipment that must be brought to every session. It is ordered via the College and full instructions on how to obtain, will be given at interview or will be sent to you when you are offered of a place on the course.
What opportunities will this lead to?
Students can progress on to Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing, Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy General or Level 2 Diploma Hair and Media Make-up Studies.
