Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning

This qualification is for you if you wish to work as, or are working as a teaching assistant, learning support assistant or similar and want to develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours. Face-to-face teaching and observation in the workplace will ensure a tailored approach to meeting your needs whilst you develop your professional practice. If you are not employed in a school, you will need to secure a placement for a minimum of one day a week.

Start Date: There are three intakes a year in September, January and at Easter. You will attend once a week for 2 hours, fortnightly. In between these enrolment windows, we offer a distance learning programme to help you prepare you for study and gain underpinning knowledge in a range of areas. These can be found on the Early Years and Education for adults course page.

Level 2 aged 19+ the fee is £482.00. Fees correct as of September 2025, and are subject to change. Fees can be paid in instalments and those on a low income may be able to get fee remission; proof is needed.

Entry Requirements

What are the entry requirements?

A current DBS check is mandatory – this will be arranged by your setting.

There are no formal academic entry requirements. However, you will be expected to have a good standard of written and spoken English, be confident in basic maths and IT. The College offers English and maths classes for adults if this is something you would like to study alongside your qualification or prior to enrolment.

Progression

What opportunities will this lead to?

Students may progress to L3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, L3 Teaching Assistant Standard Apprenticeship or secure employment in a school setting.
