How long is the course?
Full-time over one year.
How will I learn?
Group work, lectures, practical experience, discussion and written work.
What subjects will I study?
Units studied are intended to give a broad-based introduction to a chosen career in the caring field such as: influences on health and wellbeing, equal opportunities, and human growth and development. Functional Skills form part of this qualification and will be assessed at the relevant levels.
Every full-time course will include a real experience of work.
Maths and English form part of this course and will be assessed at the relevant levels.
How will I be assessed?
Continuous assessment i.e. assignments and placements and one integrated vocational assignment, nationally set.
Are there any additional costs?
There are no specific extra costs, just stationery for study.
What are the entry requirements?
Four GCSEs at grades D - G, grades 4 or less or other equivalent qualifications. You will be required to attend an interview.
Students must have a clear DBS certificate.

What opportunities will this lead to?
Students can progress on to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care, a Diploma in Childcare and Education, an equivalent Level 3 course, an Apprenticeship in Care or employment, such as working in a care home. Progression is based on aptitude and a successful interview.
