How long is the course?
The NVQ is work-based and is designed to reflect the skills and knowledge of people who work in the electrical industry. The qualification is taken over 12-18 months depending on each individual.
What subjects will I study?
Subject studied will include:
• Ensure safe site working
• Diagnose and correct faults in Electrotechnical systems and equipment.
• Install electrical wiring systems, wiring enclosures and equipment.
• Connect wiring systems and equipment using safe and approved methods.
• Inspect, test and commission an electrical installation.
Other units can be studied to suit the needs of the student and the employer.
How will I be assessed?
The NVQ is assessed on practical work in the work place and a portfolio of work including questions giving an underpinning knowledge of electrical installation work, and will be assessed by a trained assessor coming into your working environment and assessing you on real installations that you are working on.
For apprentices we can also offer a framework of NVQ, Technical certificate and functional skills at level 2 and 3 to give your training the complete coverage of hands on practical assessment, academic understanding and help with improving maths and communication skills. The technical certificate is normally done on a day release and night school system in college.
