You are interested in what’s happening around you right now. The average teenager spends 40% of their waking hours with media products. The media is such a huge part of your world it is not surprising it makes an interesting and important area to study.
As well as academic study, the Cambridge Technical offers an excellent introduction to a wide range of media skills relevant to media production such as film editing, photography, journalistic writing as well as crucial research, planning and evaluative skills.
It will give you the ability to deconstruct any piece of media to better understand how it has been put together, why it appeals to audiences, and how you can use those ideas in your own productions.
You will study a range of media texts. You’ll also learn to understand the media by producing your own range of media products.
Team work is essential in the media and your assessed work will come from a range of individual and group projects. Lessons will range from class-based analysis to independent practical production lessons.

Course Content

What Modules will you Study?

You will learn about media concepts and how to engage an audience, which is so important in this industry as your audience has to be invested and want to watch or read what you produce.
You will get the chance to do practical projects with others, such as making a short film or advert clip using speciialist equipment and learn how to edit post production all with outstanding suppport from our specialist media studies tutor.

You will study subjects such as:

Introduction to media products and audiences
Planning and producing a media product
Print-based advertising media

Entry Requirements

What are the entry requirements?

Media Level 2 Cambridge Technical may be studied as part of a Mixed Level2/Level 3 programme of 3 subjects, or a full level 2 programme of 4 subjects.

GCSE English grade 3 or above.

Applicants should have achieved mainly 4s and 3s at GCSE however, applications will be considered on an individual basis.

Students must have a desire to learn, a commitment to the course and a willingness to study GCSE English and Maths if required.

This course will support you to progress to L3 Media at College. Media studies is a subject that can lead to a wide range of future options. It will help you develop your IT skills, your confidence and raise awareness of the media industry as a whole.
