Furness College now has one of the best indoor cricket arenas in the North of England, providing a ground-breaking development for the game in this area. The giant sports hall, the Match Box is also home to a range of other sports, including basketball, netball, six-a-side football, volleyball and badminton. Alongside it, the college now houses a plush new gym and fitness centre, plus changing facilities and study rooms as well as a an outdoor, state-of-the-art 3G football pitch.
Mike Gatting officially opened the brand new sports hall at Furness College, the Match Box after bowling to Georgie Holmes from Haverigg - a 1st year BTEC sports student, Lancashire county player and part of the under-19s development squad. In one of his first roles as MCC president, Gatting was left very impressed Furness College facility which is part-funded by the England Cricket Board (ECB) and Cumbria Cricket Ltd. The new sports hall includes a number of features including specialist cameras for video analysis, nets, cushioned flooring, a spectator viewing gallery, scoreboard and hi-tech bowling machine.
