Level 2 Engineering Foundation Programme (Electrical, Fabrication, Welding, Pipework and Mechanical)

What are the entry requirements?

Four GCSEs at grades A - C, grades 4/5 or above (including maths and science) or other equivalent qualifications. Applicants will be expected to attend a pre-entry assessment and interview.

What subjects will I study?

This comprehensive programme is recognised by industry as the first step towards a career in engineering. Students will be equipped with a breadth of knowledge and practical competence covering all aspects of engineering, such as mechanical, pipework, electrical, fabrication and welding.

The programme is made up of EAL Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations, which includes practical tasks, technical knowledge and a portfolio of evidence.

Every full-time course will include a real experience of work.

Maths and English are an integral part of this course and will be assessed at the relevant levels.

How will I learn?

A combination of workshop style, hands on and taught classroom sessions.

How will I be assessed?

Through projects and assessments.

What opportunities will this lead to?

Employment as a craftsperson in the industry, an Apprenticeship or Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Engineering Craft or Technical Engineering. Progression is based on aptitude and a successful interview. Students can be employed in the industry in jobs such as CAD operators, draughting or technical and craft engineering roles.

How long is the course?

Full-time over one year. Approximately 3 days a week.

Are there any additional costs?

You will need overalls, boots, stationery and drawing equipment.
